Looking After Your Car At Winter Time.

Since having children, our main priority has become their safety, especially when they are in the car. It took us absolutely ages to decide on their car seats, I spent hours, if not weeks looking at different types of car seats, all of their safety features, and reviews. We finally settled upon one, but I couldn't believe how look it took us to make a choice.

There are a few things that you can do to make sure your car is ready for the winter, and most importantly safe for the family.

Check your tyres
It takes just a few minutes to check your tyres, making sure that the pressure is correct, and that they have the right tread depth. These few things are vital to our safety when we are out on the road. Those few minutes that you spend doing essential checks can prevent up to a £2,500 fine and potentially 2 penalty points for each illegal tyre.

Check your battery
There is nothing worse than heading out on a festive family trip, to then get stuck because the battery had completely died. I know that you can actually buy a little machine that charges your car battery - which would be really handy to keep in your car just in case.

Check your brakes are working
There is nothing more important than your brakes, especially if you have to do an emergency stop. There are a few warning signs that will tell you when your brake pads are starting to get too thin, for example, if your brakes are making a squealing sound, or you don't stop immediately when you do push the brake.

Make sure that all fluids are topped up.
Having a family who lives in the middle of nowhere means we are often on dirt or gravel roads, and they make your car absolutely filthy. Make sure your car is topped up with washer fluid, so you are able to get the dirt off your windshield. Also make sure your car isn't low on water, or anything else.

Lastly, check your lights
It can be fairly easy to miss the fact one of your rear lights has blown until night time, and by that point, it is too late. Make sure you check they are working often, and not just that, make sure they are clean as all that dirt soon dims the lights.

If you keep on top of all these little things, it will reduce the cost that may come with your MOT, and it will also avoid things cropping up that you were not aware of. Ensuring your car is legal to drive on the roads is really important. Calmac tyres  Autocentre in Northampton guarantees excellent MOT in Northampton.
