Clingfilm painting

Coming up with new and fun idea's to do with a baby is really difficult. Especially when you want to encourage them to explore different things, and textures but without the mess. I've always been a fan of arts and crafts, painting, play-dough, well anything that can create a mess makes me wierdly happy! One of my close friends Gemma say's that she is useless with crafts. Quote "it's too messy, and I like it to be perfect!"

This is a quick, easy, mess free activity, sounds appealing right?

What to do
Squirt dollops of various coloured paint onto a bit of card, next loosely wrap the card in cling film making sure there is some movement

Encourage your baby to touch and feel the cling film, at first Emily wasn't intrested. The confusion on her face when she touched the cold paint, she made some funny expressions which quickly turned into giggles. She then began to push her hand down on the paint, which made the colours mix and the paint spread out. I know she is too little to realise the effect she had on the paint, but she definitely enjoyed it.

Keep the activity simple, that way you can never go wrong and your child can take the lead. Babies and toddlers need time to explore and develop their own ideas, at they're own pace. The development occurs during the activity that is not based on a end result or product, remember this is their own work and not that of their parents. It may not be perfect but it's perfect to them. Being creative is allowing babies and toddlers to explore and use their own imaginations.
