Leapstart Interactive Learning System [Review]

Emily was recently sent the Leapfrog Leapstart to review, and she was so excited to test it out. Featuring a strong and tough case that is clearly made to last, it is perfect for pre-school age children. It also has an easy-to-carry handle making it perfect for transporting when you are on the go. It works by reading the invisible dots on the pages of your chosen activity book to trigger and engage fun audio sounds to help your little-one complete the challenges as they work through the book. The easy-to-grip stylus means you can tap the page to activate the audio sounds introducing them to the world of letters, numbers, and creating various music.

Included in the box is the LeapStart system itself, a quick start instruction manual, a USB cable, and a sample book. Getting the LeapStart set up is fairly simple and takes around 15 minutes. After you simply pop in 2 AA batteries, you are asked to attach the LeapStart to a computer for an update. This update adds in audio, you can sign up for a LeapFrog account, and download the audio needed for whichever books you have.

After this is complete your child is ready to start on their learning journey. The LeapStart has two buttons, one which turns it on and off, and the other which controls the volume. It also has an additional slot for headphones, if you wish to plug in headphones when you are out and about. It didn't take Emily long to get the hang of the buttons, she quickly learnt what each button did.

One thing I really did like, is that the LeapStart is quite robust, Emily accidentally dropped it on the floor, and it remained intact, undamaged which is a relief. That aside, it still is really lightweight making it easy for children to carry it themselves.

Emily really enjoyed playing with the LeapStart, she has shown a real interest in using it more and more, and it has encouraged her to practice writing letters, something that she wasn't very interested in before. She has also asked Santa for a few new books for Christmas (RRP of £9.99 each and can be purchased separately) - She desperately wants the PJ Masks book.

I love that the product promotes learning in a fun way, It also grows with your child. There are so many different activities and various levels to choose from. I personally think that it is such great value for money, and a product I really would recommend. While it is interactive, its not the same as them watching a tablet as they require the use of fine motor skills to use the LeapStart.

I would love to hear what you think of the product. Does your child have a LeapStart?

We were kindly sent the product in exchange for a review, however, all opinions are my own.
