Happy 3rd Birthday Emily!

Our, Em-bug.

How is it possible that another year has passed, it feels like yesterday I was sitting down to write you a letter on your birthday. I can't believe how much you have changed and grown in just a year. I know that you think you're a big girl now, and you don't need your mama and daddy anymore - but I can assure you, you do. I wish you would stop being so stubborn and let us help you a little more.

You are so full of happiness and smiles, you wake up in the morning with the biggest smile on your face - always. I want to remember those smiles as I'm sure when you are a teenager and we are trying to wake you in the morning we will be greeted with 'go away' and your heads under the covers. You are so feisty and independent, you absolutely hate letting people help you and would much rather do it yourself - I'm afraid that is a trait you got from me.

Your also so kind and caring, especially towards your little sister. Since she has been born you two have been inseparable. The only problem I have is you love her a little too much, and you literally want to be with her 24/7, doing everything for her. It doesn't matter if that is bath time, getting her dressed, changing her bum or feeding her - you want to be involved. I love how much you love your sister - even if it means daddy and I can't take our eyes off you for a moment for fear that you will try and pick her up or something. Don't worry though, Isabelle loves you just as much as you do her, that is clear to see. You always get the biggest smiles from her.

You are still not girly, at all. You will finally wear a dress but that is on your terms and your terms alone. There really is no forcing you into doing something you don't want to. You are not into girly things at all, dinosaurs, cars and trains are your favourites. Although recently you have developed a love for Trolls.

I am so thankful for the relationship we have, I was worried that once your sister came along, you wouldn't want to be near me anymore and there would be some jealousy. That isn't the case at all though, you are still my little shadow and I love that. I always want to have you by my side. I have really been treasuring the moments we spend together, we have had the best year with you and this has by far been my favourite year, you are full of conversation and curiosity, and I love it. We are constantly trying to find new things to do, as you always want to learn new things and you love to figure out how to do something.

Your imagination is the one thing I am the proudest of. I truly believe the key to a happy child, is a good imagination and having toys to express and stimulate that. I love listening to you role play with your toys. Using your various character figures to create stories or act out things that you have previously seen. I hope that as you grow, your imagination grows with you. I know that you are going to be into the arts, although I'm not sure if that's acting or singing or drawing, you love singing. Your so funny and animated when you tell your stories, and very musical.

I hope that we teach you to love and be kind, to embrace your creative side and always express your emotions. I hope that you carry on being independent, never depending on anyone fully, and always being your own person. I hope that you are always as polite as you are now, and keep that curiosity for life that you have. Most of all I hope to teach you how important it is to show the people that you care about you love them. No matter what you plan or set out to do in your life, I hope you find true happiness and you succeed in whatever you set your mind to. As you get older I hope you will always trust me with your problems and secrets. I want to be your mama, and your best friend - always.

Happy Birthday, baby! You continue to make your Daddy and I proud, every day.

Love, your Mama x

  2. Awww this is such a sweet letter to her. She sounds like such a happy little star and that she has taken on the roll of big sister really well. I have a 3 year old too and she is also very not girly, much preferring dinosaurs and fast cars! :D I am very jealous at how much more hair Emily has though haha. If you saw my daughter, her hair just hasn't grown and she's 3.5! xx
