Joie I-Gemm [Review]

When I was pregnant with Isabelle, Joie reached out to see if I would like to review the I-Gemm car seat, of course, I said yes. Fast forward to now, Isabelle is a month old and we have been using the car seat since she was born. I have to say I'm a little bit in love with it. Especially the pavement grey colour.

The I-Gemm is the first infant car seat from Joie, which meets the new i-size certification (when used with the I-Size base which we also have). The Joie I-Gemm allows baby to travel rear facing, from birth up to 15 months. The car seat has various features to enable it to grow with your baby for longer use.

A feature that we are really loving is the 'grow together' headrest and harness. There are no fiddly adjustments, you simply adjust the headrest upwards easily with one hand and the harness moves with it. This means you don't have to mess around with the harness, or move it and then re-thread it like you do with other car seats.

The seat also has two inserts that you use until your baby outgrows them, one for the body and one for the head. This ensures that they are kept snug and are positioned properly in the seat. The I-Gemm also has a retractable, removable sun canopy which features a zip-open ventilation panel. The ventilation panel has come in so useful during the hotter weather, as I have been able to open it, and a breeze has got to Isabelle, cooling her down whilst we are in the car.

The I-Gemm also has a carry handle, which allows you to easily lift the car seat in and out of the car with ease. It has been really handy to get Isabelle properly fitted and comfortable in the car seat before it is in the car, then using the handle to lift her in. It puts my mind at ease that she is safe and secure properly before we set off.

As I mentioned, we were also sent the I-Base fix base, which works perfectly with the I-Gemm. The base has a leg brace to secure in position, which sits in the footwell. The I-Base allows the car seat to simply click in and out at the push of a button. It is super easy to use, and I love how quickly I can get Isabelle into the car. I always wondered how I would manage to get two into the car without Emily running off, or Isabelle getting upset if I put Emily in the car first - I literally have none of these problems as it takes seconds to pop Isabelle in the car, giving me time to then put Emily into the car without her running off.

Joie uses a handy 'green for go' system. When installing the base and car seat, there are colour coded install indicators which must all have turned completely green - this will show you that everything is correctly installed. If they are still red this means it is not secure. I find this feature so reassuring, as I suffer from anxiety and end up triple checking everything before setting off.

Overall I am really impressed with the car seat. It does the job it is supposed to and has some really cool features that put my mind at ease - such as the green for go system. Isabelle always seems happy and content in her car seat too.

I was sent this product in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

  5. Great idea making it adjustable by putting the head rest up and down. She is so gorgeous. The green coding is great too. We have the same system on our car seat and we love it. Totally essential

  6. That car seat looks so comfy, remember when I had my eldest and the car seat hardly had any padding in them.

  9. She looks right at home in the car seat. Love the shade of grey and the pink and grey blankie is lovely. I seem to have baby blanket envy (i mean i want a grown up size version and not the baby version!)
