Making Pizza With Emily

Recently Emily has become a right little helper, she is fiercely independent. She shows a interest in absolutely everything you do, much to my dismay when I am trying to do my make up and she runs away with the mirror. However when I was making pizza on Thursday night she was fascinated and wanted to help. I made the dough as normal, and as soon as I put the tomato puree on the pizza she was at my feet demanding to be picked 'up' so she could see what I was doing.

She then began to take the ingredients from my hands to put them on herself. I thought she would just pick a handful and throw them on, but much to my surprise she didn't. She carefully picked one thing at a time, placing it on the pizza and making sure it had enough space. Once she has placed all the hotdogs on the pizza she went on to place pepperoni and then the cheese. At a year old I didn't think this would be of much intrest to her, or that she would be capable of placing everything on the pizza so carefully. I cannot tell you how proud I am of my little girl, and I can't wait to cook and bake with her more.

If you want to make pizza yourself, the dough is so easy to make. I used 125g of strong bread flour, 7g of yeast and 1 teaspoon of salt. I then add 150ml of warm water to the mixture until I make a dough. Once you have a dough kneed it for 5 minutes and then place it under a teatowel for 20-30 minutes before rolling it out.

Then of course Emily wanted to watch her pizza cook in the oven. I'm happy to say she ate more pizza than she normally does and seemed really proud of herself. Looks like I have a mini chef in the making.
