Emily's Cake Smash

For Emily's first birthday, we decided to get a cake smash photoshoot. I spent ages looking for a photographer who I trusted to do it. I guess I am a pretty sentimental person. I want to capture every moment of her growing up, simply because I really don't want to miss anything. The idea of a cake smash sounded so appealing, Emily loves to make a mess so it wouldn't be a problem, right? Oh how wrong I was, she ate the icing, and that was pretty much it. She was not interested in smashing the cake, or even eating it. She was trying to crawl away most of the time, but the few moments she was interested were captured beautifully. I am super happy with how the photographs turned out.

We decided to go with a photographer called Frank. Based in Milton Keynes, he is a professional independent photographer who specializes in weddings, portraits, model and performance artist portfolios and events photography. He has also worked on many types of on-location shoots and projects including TV/Films. I found that Frank was really flexible, he has a professional portable studio lighting system and a variety of backgrounds available which allows him to accommodate your preferences. This appealed to us as we wanted our photoshoot outside. Frank also has a fully equipped studio that is available for individual and group sessions, or portfolio work.

Frank listened to what we wanted, and was so patient with Emily. She can be a little bit of a diva at the best of times, and he was completely fine with that. He instantly knew what kind of photographs we were aiming for. Some how between Emily crawling away, and the fact she insisted on turning around, he managed to get amazing photographs which also captured her cheeky personality. Frank has a real eye for detail, when we decided we wanted to do Emily's cake smash outside, he was completely accommodating. He helped us pick out the perfect location and when we arrived he was happy to walk around to find the perfect back drop for her photographs. I was also pleasantly surprised at how many photographs he managed to take in such a short amount of time, I think we were with him for about a hour, and he got really good quality photographs for us. He not only got the cake smash photographs, but he managed to get some really natural ones of us as a family, which we wasn't intending on taking. I am so thankful he convinced us to do them because they have become my favourite photographs. The one thing that really stood out for me was how friendly and laid back Frank is, he was so easy to get along with and had so much patience with Emily. I'm just going to let the photographs do the talking, If you want to find out more about Frank or book your own shoot with him, you can find him on his website Frank Chin Photography or his Facebook page. Feel free to tell him I sent you!

We did a smaller scale cake smash for my son's 1st birthday, it's didn't go as well as Emily's because he was too worried about touching the cake! Such fun memories x
