Den building with Dunelm

Building dens offers a amazing opportunity for your children to be imaginative and creative. They have the freedom to build any kind of den they want, maybe there own little house, where they can invite a friend to dinner, or a castle they need to protect from the cushion monsters. When I was a child I used to love ripping off my bed sheets much to my parents dismay. There is something magical about having your own little fort made out of blankets. When you become a adult you loose the opportunities to do these things, but when you become a parent that opportunity is suddenly appropriate again. It is perfectly normal to make blanket dens, and eat your lunch in there with your little one.

You can use all sorts of things to build dens, cardboard boxes can be used, or even chairs to hold blankets up. A secret den gives children privacy, where they can get lost in there own world, and have some quiet time. There is something about being inside your own den that makes everything more exciting, it is the perfect opportunity to encourage your child to read. It is also a chance for children to engage in role play, they can act as another character or act out situations they may have come across in their own lives.

One of the things I love the most about being a parent is being able to act like a child myself, and let my imagination run away with me. Seeing the excitement in Emily's face, she really appreciates the little things, and sure had lots of fun reading inside the den. In fact it was up all day! We were kindly sent some items by Dunelm to help us build forts. I absolutely love the items we were send, and I can't wait to show them to you.

We were sent these gorgeous cushions, they are really bright, and so comfy. They will be the perfect addition in Emily's bedroom. I love the saying 'you make me happy when skies are grey'. I used to sing this song to Emily when she was a baby, and it has quite the sentimental meaning. The other cushion says 'always look on the bright side of life' which is a song my Grandad always used to hum, and sing in the car.

Emily has a pink teddy bear blanket which she cuddles at night. This blanket is so fluffy, and the perfect blanket to cuddle up with on a late night. We already have three large brown ones, which we use as throws on our sofa. They actually absorb anything that may have been split on the sofa before it gets through, Which I love because I'm quite a clumsy person and also Emily spills a lot of things. They also give the room a cosey homely feel.

We also got these two beautiful cushions, which complete all of the things that we were sent. I love the 'home is wherever I'm with you' It is one of my favourite songs, and I just think it looks lovely. I also found the '10 rules to live by' pillows really appealing.

As you can see we had lots of fun building dens, Emily spent the rest of the day playing in her den. She would crawl out to get some toys, and then crawl back again. It's so lovely to see her enjoying such a simple activity, one that I played when I was younger. The pillows made the den super comfortable, and Emily really enjoyed cuddling up under the blanket. It is really fluffy and will be the perfect blanket to cuddle up with in the winter.

*I wasn't paid for this post. I received the item for the review purposes. However all opinions are completely my own.*

  1. I use to spend hours building dens when I was small. I know that my toddler would love too now with her brother x
