Weaning

Emily has come on so far with weaning, as you know if you read her updates we started with purees. She has started to progress quite a lot, I tried her with toast recently and she absolutely loved it. She literally gums it until there is nothing left, because Emily was the one to show the initial interest in progressing more to BLW (baby led weaning). BLW wasn't something I really wanted to go for, I wouldn't make her whole diet baby led just because I feel like she wouldn't get all that she needs out of her diet. Especially since Emily will only have 3 bottles a day. For example for breakfast Emily will have porridge or weetabix, with fruit which is obvious spoon fed, but then she will have a little bit of toast with it.

I've started to make more of my own purees now to, Emily is having more of what we have. I just stick it in the blender and she what we do. She is definitely getting more of a variety in her meals and diets. With the jars and pouches I have been giving her the 7 month plus range, she is really enjoying them, they're still smooth but they have a bit more texture than the others. The plus side to it is there is a lot more range to what she can have. Emily has also been having cooled boiled water with all of her meals, up until now. She didn't really like juice but we found some she does like. She was going through a phase of spitting all her water out. I found these in boots, they're like a water with a hint of flavour. The flavours are not very strong which she likes. She has peach, strawberry and apple.

Emily's pincer grip has really improved and she has perfected it. I'm so proud of her, she will pick up smaller pieces of food. She is also holding into her cup now, she hasn't quite grasped the fact she needs to tip it up yet, but she is getting there. Since we've started to include BLW Emily is enjoying it so much more, meal times have become exciting again. I've become a lot more confident in trying new foods, and offering Emily a variety of things. Before I was sticking to offering her maybe one or two different things in a week. Now we just go for it and hope for the best. There is nothing that Emily dislikes so far, which is a good thing in my opinion because I don't want her to be fussy.

Some foods Emily has tried BLW style:
Toast, laughing cow sandwiches, Mash potato, tomato, yorkshire pudding, weetabix, carrots, potato fries, bread rolls, apple, ham, yoghurts, cheese, pasta, Barney bear apple cakes, carrot puffs.
I'm sure I've missed a few.
